Kelly Fritz is an American filmmaker based in rural Raglan. After immigrating to New Zealand in late 2017, she found her place in the flourishing Waikato filmmaking community by joining the crew as 1st AD on the local short film, ‘Blink’ (Written and Directed by Paige Larianova).
Her Bachelor of Arts in TV & Film Production from Western Kentucky University and double minors in film theory and gender studies support her kaupapa of filmmaking through an intersectional feminist lens. Kelly is a S-T-A-U-N-C-H woman, keen to challenge the status quo and embrace the use of the female gaze.
Kelly draws inspiration from experimental filmmakers such as Maya Deren and Len Lye, incorporating avant-garde and found footage techniques into her creative practice. She’s recently joined the Letterboxd cult as KellyMcSwelly, and as of the writing of this bio has logged 3,127 films.
