It was a triple feature of ‘THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD’, James Whale’s ‘THE INVISIBLE MAN’ and the Lon Chaney/Rupert Julian ‘PHANTOM OF THE OPERA’ at the age of 2 that changed my life forever. To think that people behind the cameras were impeccably crafting these richly evocative works sent shockwaves through my soul. I knew what I had to do for the rest of my life…
Thanks to an old (even then) home camcorder and the bountiful warehouse bargain bins, I spent my entire childhood immersed in the world of cinema: watching, reading, and dreaming as much as I could muster. Having fallen jointly in love with music, I began teaching myself keyboard and composing my own scores at age 7. This led to hundreds of homemade epics; from monster movies and mysteries, to adventures and documentaries. From ages 10-11, I began experimenting relentlessly with animation and special effects; further learning the tools of the trade.
Flash-forward to high school and I began watching 300+ films a year, shooting projects with friends, composing music and writing short stories. At 15 I started work at the local supermarket, a job I maintained for 8 years, and a wellspring of inspiration for scripts and scenarios.
With school over, I began pursuing film projects whenever I wasn’t needed down aisle 3!
I’m currently working on an animated adaptation of Stephen King’s short story ‘The Reach’, having acquired the rights through King’s ‘Dollar Baby’ program.
Whether a film is entertaining, enlightening or confronting: film can provide it’s viewers with unparalleled entertainment, a sobering reminder of the human condition or everything in-between. Film affords us crucially, the opportunity to feel something, and if that ain’t the purpose of art then I don’t know what is.
