Member Info

I am a filmmaker, visual artist, photographer, and tinkerer based in Kirikiriroa/Hamilton, Aotearoa/New Zealand. I have worked in a range of roles on a variety of film projects.

I own and operate Luminis Ltd, a small company that provides professional services and video production to art galleries, artists, commercial businesses, and the public.

My experimental digital films, often examining ideas of perception and (mis)communication, have been well-received at film festivals, in art galleries, and on television around the world.

I have created videos and video installations that have featured in galleries, museums, and live stage productions.

Several of my photographs of stage and film productions, and other events, have featured in newspapers and magazines.

Industry Experience

Dan has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Screen and Media Studies from the University of Waikato, and over twenty years' experience creating films and other moving image works.

During this time, he has worked in a range of roles on a variety of film projects. He has served as writer, director, director of photography, camera operator, editor, animator, production designer, prop builder, and stills photographer on narrative, documentary, and experimental films, as well as concert and music videos.

Dan has conceived and created several experimental live-action and animated short films that have screened at film festivals, in art galleries, and on television around the world.

Dan’s video artworks have featured in art exhibitions, music concerts, and stage productions. He has also designed and installed video installations for museum exhibitions, and produced several documentary videos for display in museum and art gallery exhibitions.

Other Skills & Experience

Along with his filmmaking and moving image work, Dan’s interests include illustration, design, and making objects. He has experience in carpentry and cabinetmaking and has built display furniture for museums and art galleries, sculptural artworks, and film props.
